Love being on the water? Patrick County has something for every skill level. Whether you’re testing your kayaking skills on the Dan River or spending the day paddling along Fairy Stone Lake, you and your family will find a fun adventure here in Patrick County.

Safety First

Before hitting the water, make sure you have everything you need to have a safe, fun time.

  • Wear life jackets while on the water
  • Dress for the weather
  • Be mindful of water levels and conditions
  • Be respectful of others and private property
  • Bring friends or make sure someone knows your plans

The Dan River

The Dan River begins in Meadows of Dan and flows through the western part of Patrick county before going into North Carolina.

Kibler Valley is one of the best places to access the Dan River. It’s a popular spot for kayakers, tubers, and canoers. Kibler is also home to the annual Kibler Valley River Run hosted by the Red Bank Ruitans each July.

Fairy Stone State Park

Fairy Stone Park is a great place to swim, fish, or spend the day out on the water. The lake covers 168 acres and it is a great place to catch trout and panfish. Rowboats, paddleboats, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes are available for rent from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Gas-powered motors are prohibited on Fairy Stone Lake. electric trolling motors are permitted

Philpott Lake

Philpott Lake is located twenty minutes away from Fairy Stone State Park. There are ten boating ramps located throughout the lake. Motorized and manually powered vessels are allowed.
